Rev Matthew R. Stromberg, Rector
The Reverend Canon Matthew R. Stromberg was called and elected to be the 19th Rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church, Schenectady, effective August 1, 2016.
Raised outside of Philadelphia in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, Father Stromberg served at Christ Church, Cooperstown as Curate beginning in May 2014 when he was ordained as a Deacon. He was made a priest on December 6 of that same year on the Feast of Saint Nicholas of Myra.
Father Stromberg holds a Masters of Divinity from the Trinity School for Ministry and a Bachelor’s cum laude from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, where he majored in painting and drawing.
As a representative on the Great Chapter of the Cathedral of All Saints, Father Stromberg has been named a canon capitular. He also serves on our diocesan counsel and has volunteered with our deanery youth group.
Father Stromberg has a passion for the arts and has loved comic books since before he could read. He and a couple of his clergy colleagues host a podcast called “God and Comics” in which they discuss issues related to comic books, theology, and the Christian faith. Father Stromberg, his wife April, and two children, Helen Joy and Isaac Matthew Stromberg, live in the Historic Stockade district of Schenectady in our beautiful rectory overlooking the Mohawk River and dating back to the 1750’s.
